The 2025-26 Wärmestube season came to an end on 31 March. A record number of guests — 2,541 people — visited Sechshauser Straße 56 on 18 Tuesdays from December through March to warm their bodies and souls, enjoy a good meal, and experience a sense of community. The team, led by Jutta Dietl, looks back with gratitude.

We did, however, feel a bit wistful on this last day of the season. We’ve grown very fond of our guests, many of whom are regulars. We experienced a strong sense of community and solidarity within the volunteer team and always felt the support from our congregations beyond the team — thank you for that! We were also wistful and at the same time very grateful because Pastor John Calhoun, who will be leaving ESUMC this summer, was saying goodbye to our Wärmestube.

So it was good to meet once more as a team on the last Tuesday of the season, to look back and reflect together and before God on many beautiful and some difficult moments, to let go of the heavy burdens and take the light ones with us into the coming season, with the confidence that God continues to hold the people we can no longer accompany under His protection.

We also looked back with gratitude together with the guests of the Wärmestube and offered our thanks to God. We even spontaneously rewrote the well-known song “Thank You for This Good Morning,” changing it, of course, to “Thank You for This Wärmestube.” To all who have been a part of the Wärmestube over the past few months: May God watch over you on your journeys!

P.S. This summer, we’re opening our doors to offer a “Cooling Oasis.” Sechshauser Straße 56 will become a space where you can escape the city heat. The Cooling Oasis will take place on the last Tuesday of each month in June, July, and August (June 30, July 28, August 25—each in the early afternoon). More information will follow.
